TODAY CURRENCY UPDATE FOR 30 JAN 2015

Rupee down 12 paise against dollar in late morning trade
The rupee fell by 12 paise to 61.53 against the American currency in late morning trade today on month-end dollar demand from importers. The rupee resumed lower at 61.44 as against yesterday's closing level of 61.41 at the Interbank Foreign Exchange (Forex) and moved down further to 61.54 before quoting at 61.53 at 1100 hours. The local currency hovered in a range of 61.42 and 61.54 during late morning trade.

Russian rouble opens broadly weaker on Thursday
Russia's rouble slid in early trade on Thursday, extending losses from earlier in the week as falling oil prices and the threat of new European Union sanctions over the Ukraine crisis soured sentiment.

Stocks were mixed, with the dollar-based RTS index down 1 per cent to 758 points and the rouble-denominated MICEX

Yuan eases, remains near weaker edge of trading band
China's yuan eased on Thursday following a weaker midpoint, hovering a few points away from the weaker edge of the daily trading limit on expectations of further weakness.
 

The People's Bank of China set the midpoint rate at 6.1335 per dollar prior to the market open, weaker than the previous fix of 6.1282.
 

The spot market opened at 6.2531 per dollar and was changing hands at 6.2487 at midday, 7 pips weaker than the previous close and 1.88 per cent away from the midpoint.
